The community of the Basic Schools Zea de Chuspa, and the Guayabal School, in the towns of the same name (both of the Vargas state) began to enjoy the benefits of recycling, their students were the recipient of kits of school supplies, thanks to the “Sow the Future” program carried out by the Yammine Foundation.
Sarkis Yammine, spokesperson of the Foundation, explained that the program consists of stimulating environmental care through recycling. “These kits are a stimulus and it’s a way for children to get the idea that with recycling we all win, we take care of the environment, we get material that can be reused, and it can have a positive social impact,” he said.
In the Zea School of Chuspa, the Fundación Yammine / Yammine Foundation delivered 119 school kits, product of the collection by its students of 108.21 kilograms of glass, 42.44 kilos of plastic and 60 of cardboard. On the other hand, at the Guayabal School, 38 kits were given to their students, due to their intense work that consisted in the collection of 247.17 kilograms of glass, 13.08 of plastic and 17.96 kilos of cardboard. The program allowed all regular students from both institutions to not run out of supplies for the new school period.
Yammine explained that this initiative will be taken to other schools in the country. In Baruta, for example, a pilot plan is being executed at the Bárbaro Rivas School in that area, he said.
He added that each child now has a kind of “account,” in which points are added for recycled material collected and that can be changed by school supplies.
